The hike to this 209’ waterfall is 5 miles roundtrip.  Here you’ll find some of the best views in the area, old homesteads, and, of course, the tallest waterfall in mid-America!

The trail starts at over 2200 feet in elevation and then descends rather quickly down into the Buffalo River valley.  The awesome views all the way down the descent help make this a truly memorable hike.  At about the 1.5 mile point, the trail levels off as you are rewarded with one of the most spectacular views in the Ozarks.  Here, you have an unbelievable, unobstructed view of Hemmed-In Hollow Falls, the surrounding bluffs, and the Buffalo River.  The trail continues down into the valley crossing through creeks, waterfalls, and rock formations before entering Hemmed-In Hollow and the 200 ft. Hemmed-In Hollow Falls.  Although very strenuous, because of the 1200+ ft of elevation change on the hike out, Hemmed-In Hollow is a very rewarding and memorable hike that we highly recommend.

Please note: There are several areas of steep hill climbing on the way out, which can be physically demanding for even experienced hikers.

For those floating the Buffalo River, Hemmed-In Hollow can be accessed by a short .5 mile hike from the river, between Ponca and Kyle’s Landing.   you will see a sign for Hemmed-In Hollow on the side of the river.
